FAMILY CAREGIVER SUPPORT

Respite Services

Respite Care is time off for the caregiver and allows him/her to receive much needed relief and time to do what is needed to take care of themselves.

For example:

  • Go to the grocery store.

  • Visit the doctor.

  • Have lunch with a friend.

  • Attend church or school functions.

  • Rest and relax.

  • Go out of town with the comfort of knowing the person they care for is not alone.

Without relief, a caregiver’s health can deteriorate, adding to the burden and reducing the quality of care they may provide their loved one.

A Care Manager from Blue Rivers Area Agency on Aging will come to your home to assess the need. Once this has been completed, the Care Manager will assist in obtaining respite providers and coordinating the services needed.

It is up to the caregiver and the respite provider to agree upon a fee. The caregiver is responsible for paying the provider. Blue Rivers AAA will then reimburse the caregiver a set dollar amount per year to help defray the cost of the service.

Individuals who are caring for an adult age 60 or older may be eligible. For more information about Family Caregiver Support and Respite Services call Blue Rivers AAA at 402-223-1376 or 888-989-9417.
